Church of the Cross

Church of the Cross, Turangi Co-operating The Church of the Cross is a small co-operating Parish with no resident minister but a strong Parish Council who runs the parish. Worship varies according to the traditions involved, and the Parish has a well-received ministry to many visitors. While the congregation tends to be older, a small core of younger families are welcomed and nurtured from time to time.

Worship:
Either Communion or Morning Worship every Sunday at 10am

Different styles of worship for Easter, and Christmas (Duration about 1hour)

Annual special Emergency Services Thanksgiving Church Service involving Police, Fire, Ambulance, Coastguards, LANSAR.

Ethos: Common purpose. Mainly Anglican, then Presbyterian and Methodist.

Ethnicity: Pākehā with small number of Maori and Pacific Islanders, Scots, Irish, English. Nominal use of Te Reo in liturgy.

Children: Special programmes during Sunday worship such as colouring in and Anglican Minister has 10 minute ‘children’s time’ monthly.

Social: Shared meals occasionally and support for and involvement in Turangi Community events (annual Community Christmas Luncheon open to all residents of the town)

Outreach: Successful Op Shop run by Volunteers is an important part of Community involvement. Open Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. Proceeds from this venture go back into the Community.

Highlights: Christmas Carol Services, Emergency Services Thanksgiving.
